Well, I think it is a better attitude than the opposite. When I was first learning Irish, I got rather sick of learners (pretty much always non-native people with the cúpla focal) telling me something I had learned (usually from a native speaker or from works by native speakers) was wrong, simply because it wasn't what they had learned at school.

It also happened with one of the teachers I had at Oideas Gael. He wouldn't accept "Amach leat !" because he did not think it was possible to have an Irish sentence without a verb.

If you want revise your French vocabulary as well as your Irish, might I suggest that you have look at the dictionaries section on An Siopa Leabhar website where you'll find the Fócloir Póca/Dico de Poche (product 20/59 - ISBN 978 2 91485552 5) compiled by a certain Loig Cheveau. I see that they have just recently put it on there - c'est pas cher, seulement 8.50 euros. Loig used to have a website that goes with it - but I'm not sure if it's still there.
