That's a bit harsh a Bhreandáin, the Caighdeán has borrowed from Connacht far more than it has borrowed from any other dialect. Census figures indicate otherwise, Munster was historically the dialect with the largest number of Irish speakers. Connacht has the larger percentage of speakers as per overall percentage of provincial speakers.

Ah, but that's not what I said. I said Connacht has the largest number of native speakers. I don't think the census distinguishes between native Gaeltacht speakers and non-native speakers with the "cúpla focal", does it?

Is that a joke? Almost one Munster inhabitant out of two can speak Irish? :darklaugh:
