Cheese assembly?

I've been listening to some interesting podcasts (http://irishhistorypodcast.ie - as Béarla) about Irish history. The name of one of the tribes intrigues me. I've seen it written Dál Cais, Dál gCais, and even Dáil Cais. It's Anglicised to "the Dalcassians". Does anyone know the origin of the name? I'm guessing that Cas is a name of some sort, and possibly Dál is related to our word dáil, but it's only a guess. Curious wombat is curious. Every time I hear it, I picture a high council of cheeses.

That is a grate question, but have you a shred of evidence to back it all up? To brie or not to brie, that is the question. Cheesy I know, but couldn't resist. Nothing sensible or helpful to add. I swiss I could help.... :twisted:

Dal - seed, tribe, descendants of
Cas - King of east Munster 10th.century, located at Rock of Cashel ("Cas's tax" and nothing to do with rock fortifications)
