I've added a suggestion to the Forum Rules that people who want to use the old spellings mark their suggestions with (SL) for sean-litriú (or sean-leagan) to help beginners, as a primary objective of this site is help people learn about Irish. I don't believe this is achieved by dumbing down everything to a reduced "standard" but rather by pointing out and making it clearer to people why the different versions and variations exist.

This has always applied to dialect versions on our site. We would prefer that non-standard translations and suggestions be marked with a dialect code to alert learners to and inform them of the differences.

All suggestions and translations should be in bold to make them stand out against the more general comments.

People who prefer older spelling might also like to consider using the Bunchló Ársa font and ponc séimhithe.

If you don't wish to mark your suggestions or translations with a dialect or spelling code, then adding a statement of your preference in your signature would be helpful, preferably in a way even beginners can understand.

We respect your right to use dialects and old spelling, please make your intention clear so that others don't inadvertantly attempt to "standardise" your contributions.

Even if you have been with us for a long time, please take time to look through the Forum Rules and familiarise yourself with them. (I've also added a suggested heading of TC: for Tógáil Clainne, for instance.)
